Hughes
Wraps Up PCC Motorsports Stint in $100k DTWC
(October
23, 2023) The 2023 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
season came to a close on October 20-22 in a rainy weekend at
the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The 43rd edition
of the 'Dirt Track World Championship' took place for the first
time at the 1/2-mile, high-banked speedplant and the #11 team
was in the pit area to vie for the $100,000 first place prize
money. With inclement weather shuffling the order of events, Spencer
Hughes kicked off the weekend on Saturday by posting the eleventh
quickest lap in Group B during the qualifying session.
When action resumed on Sunday afternoon at the "Big
E," Spencer ran eighth in his stacked heat race and fifth
in his B-Main. After relying on a provisional to gain access into
the 100-lap headliner, Spencer rolled off from the outside of
the fourteenth row in his final start for PCC Motorsports. The
Meridian, Mississippi standout moved forward early in the race
before ultimately retiring in the seventeenth finishing position.
After the points were tallied, Spencer was awarded twelfth in

Hughes Steers to Top Five in Fall Classic Opener
(October
15, 2023) Spencer Hughes was back in action on October
13-14 at the nearby Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi.
The unsanctioned 'Coors Light Fall Classic' was on tap and the
weekend started with twin $3,000 to win preliminary programs for
the Super Late Models on Friday night. In one of his last drives
for PCC Motorsports, Spencer ran second in his heat race prior
to placing fifth in the 30-lap feature behind only victor Josh
Putnam, Morgan Bagley, Cade Dillard, and Billy Moyer. With a $15,000

second transfer spot through his heat race, but was later caught
up in a multi-car wreck on a lap 12 restart, which caused his
#11 machine to rollover and led to disappointing twentieth place
effort.
The Meridian, Mississippi hotshoe also competed
in a Street Stock throughout the weekend at his hometown track.
Spencer laid down the quickest time in Group B during qualifying
and won his heat race prior to landing on the podium in the $2,000
to win main event behind only race winner Oakley Johns and runner-up
Carl Stanley Kilgore. Complete results from the 29th Annual 'Coors

PCC Motorsports
to Scale Back; Hughes Looking for '24 Opportunities
(October
2, 2023) Following a steady eleventh place performance
in Saturday night’s annual ‘Pittsburgher’ at
the sprawling Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, PCC Motorsports
and driver Spencer Hughes have announced today that this season
will be their last year together. Citing a sharp rise in operating
expenses, owner Craig Sims has recently made the decision to scale
back his racing operation following the completion of the upcoming
‘Dirt Track World Championship.’ The Hope, Indiana-based
Super Late Model team still has two events left on their schedule
in 2023 - the ‘Coors Light Fall Classic’ at Whynot
Motorsports Park in Spencer’s hometown of Meridian, Mississippi
on October 13-14 and the aforementioned $100,000 to win DTWC at
Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on October 20-21, which will
wrap up the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series slate of events.

“First off, I think of Spencer (Hughes) as a son and all
of the guys that have worked on the car as part of our family,”
quoted Craig Sims today via telephone. “It all comes down
to the rising cost of our sport. It costs twice as much now as
it did when we started this team three-and-a-half years ago with
Hudson O’Neal driving the car. When it comes down to it,
it just doesn’t make any financial sense anymore. Hopefully,
everything works out for Spencer and he lands on his feet somewhere
that can help him keep progressing in this sport. I greatly appreciate
his dedication and talent behind the wheel, the hard work of each
of our crew guys that we had this year and in the past, and of
course all of our great sponsors. PCC Motorsports would definitely
not have been possible without each one of our valued sponsors
and our product supporters.”
